Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, 2018: 2nd T20I – Statistical Highlights

Since losing the first two games of the Tri-Nation ODI series, Sri Lanka bounced back strong to ended up winning the tournament, the Test and T20I series against the home team. After recording their highest successful chase in the first T20I, Sri Lanka posted a mammoth total batting first in the 2nd game at Sylhet. Kusal Mendis’s 42-ball 70 was the highlight of the visitors’ innings that relied on their top order for posting 210/4 in their 20 overs. Bangladesh made only 135 before they were bowled out in 18.4 overs.

2 – Kusal Mendis scored fifties in both the matches of this series with 53 and 70 respectively. He is the 4th Sri Lankan to score multiple fifties in a bilateral T20I series and his series aggregate of 123 runs is also the 4th highest by a Sri Lanka in bilateral T20I series.
3 – Sri Lanka’s innings was only the 3rd in the T20I history where top five batsmen scored more than 25 in an innings. The Lankan top five scored more than 25 in the 2015 Pallekele T20I against Pakistan while India’s top five did the same against Sri Lanka in the 2016 Ranchi T20I in 2016.
6 – Number of T20I debutants for Bangladesh in this series. These are the most for them in a T20I series excluding their debut series. Bangladesh fielded with six debutants in the 2007 Quadrangular T20 series in Kenya and the 2016 home T20I series against Zimbabwe.
75 – Sri Lanka‘s 75-run victory margin in this game is their 3rd biggest in terms of runs in the T20I format. Sri Lanka registered the biggest win in this format of 172 against Kenya in the 2007 WT20 and defeated Zimbabwe by 82 runs in the 2012 WT20 match.
98 – Kusal Mendis and Danuskha Gunathilaka put on 98 for the opening wicket. This is Sri Lanka’s highest opening partnership in their last 39 International matches (49 inns) since July 2017. Niroshan Dickwella and Gunathilaka put on double century stands in consecutive ODI games against Zimbabwe in July last year.
205.71 – Dasun Shanaka’s batting strike-rate of 205.71 in this T20I series is the highest for a Sri Lankan in a T20I series/tournament. (Min: 30 balls faced) Shanaka hit 72 runs in the 35 balls he faced in this series with eight fours and four sixes.
210/4 – Sri Lanka’s total of 210/4 is their 6th 200+ total in T20Is and first since November 2015. This is also the 2nd highest T20I total for any team against Bangladesh. They conceded 224/4 to South Africa during their last year’s tour.
2011 – Thisara Perera batted in the top three in an International game for the first time since the 2011 World Cup. This game was only the 4th time he batted at No.3 in top three for Sri Lanka. He batted at No.3 in two T20Is in 2010 and in the 2011 CWC game against Zimbabwe.
