Bangladesh vs Windies: BCB announces 13-man squad for Dhaka Test
Only one change in the squad.
Bangladesh’s Test campaign against Windies got off to an impressive start as the hosts brushed aside the Caribbean team by 64 runs at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury in Chittagong to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Left-handed batsman Mominul Haque scored a masterful century to take Bangladesh into the ascendancy on the first day of the encounter itself.
Debutant Nayeem Hasan and Mehidy Hasan rose to the occasion with the ball and ensured that Windies weren’t able to get a foothold back in the match. The triumph was also the Tigers maiden one against Windies at home. The second Test is set to start on November 30 and Shakib Al Hasan’s men would want to come up with another resounding show.
Imrul Kayes rested
In the meantime, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 13-man squad for the upcoming Test at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Left-hander Imrul Kayes, who scored 44 and two respectively in Chittagong, has been rested. Left-hander Shadman Islam has been called up and he will make his debut, opening the batting with Soumya Sarkar.
The 23-year-old recently played for Bangladesh Cricket Board XI in the two-day warm-up match against Windies at M.A Aziz Stadium in Chittagong. He opened the batting with Sarkar itself and scored 73 runs from 169 balls with 10 boundaries and a six after which Raymond Reifer ran him out.
Barring Shadman’s inclusion, no changes have been made to the rest of the squad. All-rounder Ariful Haque and fast bowler Khaled Ahmed, both of whom didn’t play the first Test, have been persisted with. The focus will again be on how the spinners step up and deliver the goods for the Tigers.
Here is the squad
Shakib Al Hasan (C), Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mithun, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mahmudullah, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman, Taijul Islam, Nayeem Hasan, Ariful Haque, Khaled Ahmed, Shadman Islam
