Bangladesh drew the two-match Test series against Zimbabwe at home by winning the second game in Dhaka by a 218-run margin. After losing the first game by 151 runs, Bangladesh’s fightback was led by centuries from Mushfiqur Rahim (219*) and Mominul Haque (161). Zimbabwe made only 304 in their first innings despite Brendan Taylor’s ton in reply to Bangladesh’s 522/7.
A rare Test ton for Mahmudullah helped Bangladesh make 224/6 in their second innings before they declared. Chasing a target of 443, the visiting side were bowled out for 224 on final day amidst Taylor’s second century of the game.
All the major stats and numbers that were recorded during the second Test match in Dhaka:
1 – Mushfiqur Rahim became the first wicketkeeper to score multiple double centuries in the history of Test cricket. In the first innings of the game, Rahim scored 219* in 421 balls by staying 589 minutes at the crease. The runs scored, balls faced and minutes spent of Rahim in this innings are the most by a Bangladesh player in a Test inning.
1 – Brendan Taylor became the first Zimbabwe player to score twin centuries in a Test match on two different occasions. He scored 171 and 102* also against Bangladesh in the 2013 Harare Test. Grant Flower and Andy Flower scored twin tons in a Test on one occasion each for Zimbabwe.
3 – Taijul Islam became only the 3rd Bangladesh player to take five-wicket hauls in three consecutive innings. Enamul Haque Jnr in 2005 and Shakib Al Hasan in 2008 were the other Bangladesh players to achieve this feat.
11 – Brendan Taylor is only the 11th player to score multiple centuries in a Test match coming in the losing cause. He is the second player from Zimbabwe to score twin centuries in a Test match in losing cause after Andy Flower in the 2001 Harare Test against South Africa.
16 – Number of centuries Taylor has scored in his international career. These are the joint-most centuries in international cricket by any player for Zimbabwe. He is now levelled with Andy Flower who also 16 international tons for Zimbabwe.
68 – Mahmudullah scored only his second century in Test cricket with his first coming in the 2010 Hamilton Test against New Zealand. Mahmudullah played 35 matches and 68 innings between his two centuries in this format.
266 – The 266-run partnership between Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim is the 4th highest partnership for Bangladesh in Test cricket for any wicket. This is also Bangladesh’s first-ever double century stand for the 4th wicket.
710 – The 710 runs Bangladesh aggregated in this game after losing 3rd wicket are the most by them in a Test match. Bangladesh scored over 45 runs before losing their 3rd wicket across both the innings of this Test. The previous highest Bangladesh scored in a Test after losing 3rd wicket was 562 runs also against Zimbabwe in the 2013 Harare Test.
