Bangladesh clinched the 2-match T20I series with an all-round effort during the 2nd T20I which they won by 9 wickets. Brendan Taylor was a lone warrior with the bat during Zimbabwe inning. He scored an unbeaten 59 off 48 balls with 7 boundaries out of Zimbabwe’s 119/7. The total was too less to trouble the home team who chased it down in only 15.5 overs. The inform opener Liton Das smashed an unbeaten 45-ball 60 with 8 fours by putting on handy partnerships with Mohammad Naim (33) and Soumya Sarkar (20*).

All the statistical highlights from Bangladesh’s 9-wicket win against Zimbabwe in the 2nd T20I:

A winless tour for Zimbabwe:

1 – This was the first instance of a visiting team failing to win a game on Bangladesh tour where they played all three formats. Zimbabwe lost the one-off Test, 3-match ODI series by 0-3 margin and the 2-match T20I series by 0-2 margin.

Bangladesh’s big win:

9 – Bangladesh’s 9-wicket win in this match is their joint biggest victory in terms of wickets in Men’s T20I cricket. Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan in 2014 WT20 by 9 wickets while chasing a target of 73.

25 – Bangladesh chased down the target of 120 in this match in only 15.5 overs. Only twice before this game that the Bangla team reached the target in less than 16 overs in a Men’s T20I. They chased down 73 against Afghanistan during the 2014 WT20 in only 12 overs and a target of 127 against Nepal in 15.3 overs during the same edition.

A rare T20I series win at home for Bangladesh:

2015 – The last T20I series that Bangladesh won while playing at home was the one-off T20I in 2015 against Pakistan. Since then, Bangladesh lost three bilateral T20I series and an Asia Cup alongside two drawn bilateral T20I series and a shared Tri-Nation T20I series.

This is also the first T20I series win for Bangladesh anywhere since their series win in the USA against West Indies in 2018. They featured in three bilateral series and a Tri-series between these two series wins in the T20I format.

Another big opening stand for Bangladesh:

77 – The partnership of 77 runs between Mohammad Naim and Liton Das is now the 2nd highest opening partnership for Bangladesh in Men’s T20Is. The highest is 92 between Tamim Iqbal and Liton in the previous T20I game.

Taylor’s lone effort with the bat:

59* – Brendan Taylor’s unbeaten 59 is now the lowest unbeaten score by an opener in a Men’s T20I after batting through full 20 overs of the first innings. Collins Obuya’s 60* against Afghanistan in the 2013 Sharjah T20I was the previous lowest such score.

2 – Brendan Taylor is only the 2nd opener from Zimbabwe to bat through 20 overs of a Men’s T20I without getting out. The other such instance was recorded by Hamilton Masakadza who scored an unbeaten 93 also against Bangladesh in the 2016 Khulna T20I during Zimbabwe’s 18-run win.

878 – Taylor now has scored 878 runs in the T20I format which are the 2nd most T20I runs for Zimbabwe by a player behind Hamilton Masakadza’s 1662 runs. The unbeaten fifty in this match was Brendan’s 6th T20I fifty; the joint 2nd most 50+ scores for Zimbabwe in this format. Masakadza leads the list with 11 fifties while Sean Williams also has six half-centuries.
