In the second innings of the second Test between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in Dhaka, the home team found themselves in dire straits as they were reduced to 25/4 in the 13th over. However, Mahmudullah took charge from there on and bailed his team out with his second Test century. His knock also helped the Tigers set a target of 443 for Zimbabwe, which the visitors couldn’t chase down.
Following his superlative display with the willow, he performed the Sizdah and kissed the ground, expressing his gratitude to god. In the meantime, all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz also did the same along with the interim Bangladesh skipper for which he was showered with praises. Recently, the 21-year-old cricketer from Khulna also revealed the reasons behind his actions.
I could not contain my feelings
“If you have noticed our batsmen have not been able to score for quite a long time. We had lots of expectations from this match; Mushfiqur bhai scored a double ton, Mominul Bhai scored 150 [161], Riyad bhai scored a century, myself and Mithun bhai scored fifties.
So it felt really good that the batsmen are back in form and dominating. This is very important because when the batsmen score the team does well. So because of that joy I performed the Sizdah, I could not contain my feelings so I joined Riyad bhai,” Miraz was quoted as saying in Cricfrenzy.
When Mushfiqur Rahim notched his second double century in the first innings and became the first wicketkeeper in the history of Test cricket to do so, Mehidy was at the non-striker’s end, batting on 68. The youngster also talked about his experience of batting along with both Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah.
We were thinking that we had to score runs
“I always love batting with Mushfiqur bhai; every big partnership I have had was with Mushfiqur bhai. When I bat with him he explains a lot of things to me, when I play a bad shot, he scolds me and gets angry. I really like that my partner guides me, and Mushfiqur did that every time.
When batting with Riyad bhai, we were thinking that we had to score runs for the team. When Riyad bhai neared the century, I told him that I will take singles to hand over strike to him so that he can score the ton,” he added.
Bangladesh won the match by 218 runs and saved themselves from the embarrassment of losing a Test series at home. Apart from scoring a half-century, Mehidy was also impressive with the leather and he finished with eight wickets, which also included a five-wicket haul in the second innings.
