Baroda pacer Rishi Arothe turns left-arm spinner
Arothe who is a left-arm pacer by trade opted to roll his arm over against the tail.
22-year-old Rishi Arothe who plays for Baroda in the domestic circuit is a left-arm medium pacer by trade. The youngster has represented the team as well as India at the U19 level and is doing decently for himself in List A and T20 cricket. He is a part of the Baroda team that is currently playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Bangalore and while everything was pretty usual, he turned on to bowl left-arm spin today.
They were playing the penultimate league game against Odisha at the Alur Cricket Stadium. Arothe who bowled 6.4 overs in the game got the last wicket that of DR Behera with his left-arm spin which was his only success in the game. He ran in and delivered the first 5 overs of his spell as a medium pacer but towards the end opted to roll his arms over against the tail.
His figures in the match read – 6.4-0-37-1. Thus far in the tournament, he has picked 9 wickets in 7 matches with the best of 4/59 against Karnataka in their opening game of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Arothe in his List A career has featured in 13 matches and scalped 18 wickets with an average of 20.61.
Baroda top Group A
Baroda were on the top in their game today. Skipper Deepak Hooda won the toss and elected to bat first. The Odisha bowlers found it really tough to contain the imposing batsmen as three big names in the Baroda middle-order scored half centuries. Hooda contributed 52 before being dismissed by Raut. All-rounder Krunal Pandya after bagging a duck in the previous encounter scored a brilliant 84 whereas Swapnil Singh also added 56 to the team total.
After batting all their 50 overs Baroda posted 317 runs on the board for the loss of 6 wickets. In reply, Odisha were dealt early blows by the new ball pair of Seth and Meriwala who shared the first four wickets with two apiece. Eventually, all they could manage was 260 runs before being bowled out in 46.4 overs. Baroda won the match by 57 runs and thus qualified for the quarter-finals as the table toppers from Group A.
