The fifth season of the CPL is in full swing in the Caribbean these days. The tournament kicked off on August 4 and is contested between 6 teams with Jamaica Tallawahs as the defending champions. This competition is also a comeback for Trinbago Knight Riders skipper Dwayne Bravo, who is returning to top flight cricket after being on the sidelines for more than seven months due to a hamstring injury.
Miraculous escape for Fletcher
In the tournament’s 6th game between the Trinbago Knight Riders and St Lucia Stars, the rarest of the rare proposition occurred. During the 7th over of the Stars’ innings, left-arm spinner Khary Pierre bowled a straight delivery to West Indies cricketer Andre Fletcher. The right handed opener wanted to muscle one out of the park as his team wasn’t even going at 6 runs an over. He missed the delivery completely and the bowler jumped in joy. Fletcher immediately looked back onto his stumps, but they remained undisturbed.
The ball had actually hit the leg stump but the bails refused to come off the groove. The LED lights flashed for a fraction of a second as the ball deflected the leg stump and sped to the boundary. Wicket keeper Dinesh Ramdin knew exactly what was happening as his hands were on his hip immediately the ball went past him.

Fletcher couldn’t make much of the chance
The umpire signaled it as byes and the bowler couldn’t believe his luck. Fletcher survived to fight another day but his innings ended 9 overs later for a painstaking 45-ball 40. Skipper Bravo looked bemused by the turn of the event as television commentator Danny Morrison shouted on top of his voice in utter disbelief.
The Stars’ could only muster to 118 for 9 and eventually lost the game by four wickets as the Knight Riders chased the target down with 26 balls to spare.
