In today’s modern-day game, hitting sixes in limited-overs is a common adventure. With the help of a sturdy muscular willow, even a number 11 nowadays can whack it hard. In fact, currently in T20s, the herculean smashers of the ball perceive chasing targets by largely collecting boundaries and maximums.

However, traditionally clearing ropes wasn’t just the chief logic by which the batting was exhibited. The classic orthodox batters just used to emphasize finding gaps and odd boundaries. That’s why in the entire realm of ODIs, we have a lot of cricketers who haven’t hit a six in their careers.

Batters who never hit six in their ODI careers

1. Thilan Samaraweera (53 ODIs, 42 Innings)

Well, this SL great was always perceived to become an excellent Test cricketer. The batter on his red-ball debut itself had scored a commendable century against India. Normally to frizzle the bowlers, all Samaraweera used to offer was his reservoir of patience and tenacity. And that’s why while hanging his international boots, the veteran averaged almost 49.

However, in ODIs, the cricketer was found to be quite incongruous. Much like how the great VVS Laxman panned out for India. Comprehensively, from his 53 ODIs, Samaraweera just offered 862 runs at an average of 27.80. Even his best ODI knock against India in 2010 had almost come run a ball.

Overall, with regards to seizing boundaries, there were a total of 76 fours that had got amassed from Samaraweera’s blade. Interestingly in the T20s, the maestro had a tally of 16 sixes and a brilliant strike rate of 136.48.

2. Callum Ferguson (30 ODIs, 25 Innings)

Callum Ferguson had first made his international debut way back in 2009. The batter in his debut ODI series had scored runs at a strike rate of 100 plus. Originally, his batting was also perceived to be ideal for 50-over cricket. In fact, a proposition like him could dwell himself anywhere in the top six.

However, sadly after 2011, Ferguson was completely sidelined by the selectors. In his modest ODI career, the Aussie just played 30 matches scoring 663 runs at an average of 41.43. Interestingly in his List A career, the cricketer has brilliant stats scoring almost six thousand runs from 175 matches.

Even with regards to the T20s, Ferguson has two centuries and a tally of 67 sixes. Perhaps in international cricket, it was just a misfortune that the Aussie couldn’t hit a single six.

3. Dion Ebrahim (82 ODIs, 76 Innings)

Dion Ebrahim had played international cricket for Zimbabwe from 2001. The cricketer ever since his debut was an established player till 2005. In Test cricket, Ebrahim used to open and was a middle-order batter in ODIs. However, with regards to scoring runs, the batter was always deemed to slow accumulations.

In fact, such a flaw in Ebrahim’s batting is also visible in his ODI strike rate. From his 82 games, the cricketer had a strike rate of 56.81 and an average of 20.61. Even his second-best score of 84 against BAN was amassed by consuming 130 deliveries.

Overall, Zimbabwean is also one of few players to hit more than 100 fours and not collect a single six. Even while trying his hand in T20s, Ebrahim failed to either hit a four or a six.

4. Manoj Prabhakar (130 ODIs, 98 Innings)

At the start of the 1990s, Manoj Prabhakar used to be a regular name for India. More of a bowling all-rounder, Prabhakar used to be handy with his batting defence. That’s why in ODIs, the cricketer has also opened the batting. In fact, both his ODI centuries have got produced at number one and two positions.

But sadly with regards to clearing the fence, Prabhakar didn’t smash a single big hit. Even in his red-ball records, the all-rounder played 39 Tests and just tonked four sixes. In general, his strike rate in ODIs stood around 60.

All in all, from his sizable ODI appearances, Prabhakar scored 1858 runs in total. Barring his two hundreds, the cricketer also scored 11 fifties. Intriguingly, Prabhakar is also one of very few Indians to open both batting and bowling for India.

5. Geoffrey Boycott (36 ODIs, 34 Innings)

Well, Sir Geoffrey Boycott was a legendary figure while playing in the late 1960s and 70s. His overall batting in general was considered to be the epitome of the skill. The Englishman’s trademark shot used to be his back foot cover drive. However, amidst all of his red-ball greatness, Boycott played ODIs from 1971 to1981.

From his 36 appearances, the legend scored 1082 runs including a single century. Even with regards to boundaries, Boycott simply nudged 84 of them. However, smacking sixes was the only thing that was untouched by Boycott.

Comprehensively, while many perceive the great as a mere Test cricketer, his List A career allowed him to score oodles of runs. From his 313 List A games, a total of 10095 runs at an average of almost 40 were amassed by the behemoth. Barring all of them, Boycott finished first-class cricket with 48,426 runs and 151 centuries.
