One of the most innovative aspects of the Big Bash League (BBL) is the fact that players can leave their existing franchises in favour of teams offering better contractual terms. They are independent and empowered to act as they deem fit for their career considering their capabilities and opportunities.
Legendary chinaman Brad Hogg opted to make a move to the Melbourne Renegades from the Perth Scorchers in a deal which left fans, his former team management and experts shocked. Let’s take a look at 5 such interesting player tradeoffs this season:
1. Peter Neville from Renegades to Sixers
Wicketkeeper-batsman Peter Neville has decided to switch over to the Sydney Sixers after representing the Melbourne Renegades for five seasons in an exciting addition to the side. One major factor behind this decision may have been the competition he faced from fellow gloveman Matthew Wade at his former club.
Having won BBL01 with the Sixers, it will be a happy homecoming for Neville having played with the Sixers before and enjoying a good rapport with his former teammates.
Sixers coach said:
“The Sydney Sixers are very pleased that one of NSW and their own favourite sons is coming home to continue his T20 career,” said coach Greg Shipperd. “Peter brings his experiences from outside back with him and we hope to utilise his domestic and international knowledge in our favour. Highly respected throughout the cricketing community he will fit straight back into a squad he knows well.”
