Hobart Hurricanes have arguably been the team to beat in this year’s Big Bash League (BBL). The team, captained by keeper-batsman Matthew Wade, has won all their four matches and are sitting pretty atop the points table. Apart from their stupendous batting performances, the bowlers have also stepped up and delivered in the hour of need, one of them is right-arm fast bowler Riley Meredith.
The 22-year-old is the second highest wicket-taker for the Hurricanes after left-arm seamer James Faulkner with six wickets at an average and an economy rate of 19 and 7.40 respectively. His best performance came last night against the Perth Scorchers at Aurora Stadium in Launceston where he became the Player of the Match after finishing with stupendous figures of 4-0-15-3.
Lee and Jones laud Meredith
The Tasmania-born pacer accounted for the wickets of opposition captain Ashton Turner, Cameron Bancroft, who came back following his nine-month ban, and Nathan Courter Nile, who threatened with a 14-ball 20 in the death overs. Going into the crunch matches, Meredith is expected to be a vital cog in their setup. Meantime, former Aussie greats in Dean Jones and Brett Lee are impressed with Riley.
Lee was awestruck by the pace Meredith generated against the Scorchers. He praised the youngster on Twitter. “I’ve been really impressed with the pace of Riley Meredith tonight! Good wheels @BBL @HurricanesBBL @FoxCricket @FOXCricketLive,” Lee’s tweet read.

Cricketer turned commentator Dean Jones was also impressed with Meredith’s show. Furthermore, Jones also liked Alex Doolan, who scored 41 not out off 36 balls last night and put forth a stand of 31 with D’Arcy Short when the Hurricanes were chasing a paltry 109. Jones replied to Lee and wrote, “How good is he Binga!! Wow! @dizzy259 I was also impressed with Doolan… he is a quality player,”
