BBL 2018-19: Jofra Archer could bowl just 10 balls before being forced out of the attack
Simon Milenko completed the remaining two balls of the over after Archer was removed from the bowling crease.
Jofra Archer in a very short span has made a big name for himself in world cricket. The pace bowler, who is yet to play international cricket, has already created a reputation for himself in the T20 leagues. Currently, Archer is plying his trade for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2018-19. Needless to concede, he is a top draw for the side and the overseas import is highly valued in the camp. Archer is not only immaculate with his line and lengths, combined with sheer pace, he is also a very handy lower middle-order batter who is potent of hitting the long ball.
Amidst this backdrop, when the Hurricanes took on the Perth Scorchers in match 34 of the season, a lot was expected from Archer. But he did not quite have a great day in the park. After having bowled just 10 deliveries in the match, the pacer was taken out of the attack by the umpire. He attempted a slower one and it just took off to pitch well behind the batsman. The rule is that a bowler cannot bowl two beamers in a match if so he cannot continue bowling in that game.
The pacer committed this very sin and ended up being sidelined by the umpires for the remainder of the match. He bowled his first waist-height no-ball to Sam Whiteman in the 6th over of the match. In his very next over, he lost control and bowled his second waist-height no-ball to the same batter.
The umpires were quick to decide and he was not allowed to bowl after that, it was Simon Milenko who completed the remaining two balls of the over.
Hurricanes prevail
Much to the liking of the Hobart Hurricanes, the move did not hurt them too badly. They ended up winning the match by 4 wickets. The Perth Scorchers posted a decent 177/9 in their stipulated 20 overs, as Whiteman top-scored with a 44-ball 68. The run chase was powered by George Bailey, who hammered a quick 39-ball 69 to steer the Hobart Hurricanes over the line.
