Brisbane Heat had a horrendous campaign in the erstwhile edition of the Big Bash League. They finished in the seventh position of the points table as they finished with four victories from 10 matches. The team was captained by former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum. This time around, the team, yesterday, announced Chris Lynn as the new captain.
Lynn didn’t play all the matches last season but flourished in the limited chances. The Queenslander notched 309 runs in five matches at an awe-inspiring average of 154.90 with a top score of 98 not out against Perth Scorchers. Along with three half-centuries, the swashbuckling batsman played at a strike-rate of 177.58, signifying his sheer dominance in the format.
In the meantime, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), for whom Lynn plies his trade in the Indian Premier League (IPL), congratulated Lynn for the new role in BBL cricket. The franchise took to Twitter and wrote, “Brisbane Heat have picked @lynny50 to lead the side in 2019 #BBLGood choice for a skipper, @HeatBBL #KorboLorboJeetbo,”
Here is the Knights’ tweet

Lynn’s IPL career in brief
Lynn played one match for Deccan Chargers in 2012. However, he was picked up by KKR in the 2014 edition of the IPL at a price of INR 130 lakhs from a base price of INR 50 lakhs. He played a few matches here and there until the 2016 edition of the T20 tournament. Nevertheless, 2017 turned out to be an impressive year for the 28-year-old hard hitter.
Albeit he developed a shoulder injury, Lynn churned out 295 runs in seven matches at an incredible strike-rate of 180.98. In the erstwhile season, he wasn’t quite at his brutal best but notched 491 runs in 16 matches at an average of 32.73 and a decent strike-rate of 141.12. He has been retained by the Knight Riders for the upcoming IPL as well.
