The Melbourne Renegades had a decent season last time around in the 2017-18 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). After finishing third in the points table courtesy of 6 wins out of 10 matches, they crashed out following a one-run defeat against Adelaide Strikers in the semi-final. The franchise has recently opted to resign Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi for the upcoming season.

The 33-year-old was one of their fulcrums last season. In seven matches, the Loger-born cricketer scored 88 runs with a half-century to go with eight wickets. The experienced campaigner expressed his delight to take the field for the Renegades and hoped for the team to have another impressive campaign.

He’s an experienced and intelligent cricketer

“I really enjoyed my first summer playing in the Big Bash and I’m excited to be coming back. We had a great team last season, I met some wonderful people and the guys made it really easy for me to settle in. The fans were really supportive too and hopefully we can have another strong season for them,” Nabi was quoted as saying in Cricbuzz.

Andrew McDonalds, former Australian cricketer, and the Renegades’ head coach, mentioned how his experience worked wonders for the team in the previous season. He was undoubtedly happy to have the services of the Afghan player yet another time.

“He’s an experienced and intelligent cricketer who added a lot to our group last season. He was really effective with the ball and showed what he can do with the bat particularly in that match against the Stars.

We probably missed him a little bit at the back end of last season so to have him for all matches this time around is a massive bonus and we’re excited about what he’ll be able to bring this summer,” McDonald mentioned.

The upcoming edition of the BBL gets underway on Wednesday, December 19 and Melbourne Renegades are scheduled to play their first match against Perth Scorchers the next day on Thursday, December 20 at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne.
