Rashid Khan received the saddest news of his life on Sunday. His father passed away when he was sweating it out in the nets for the Adelaide Strikers for the next game against Sydney Thunder. He was left heartbroken even as the cricketing fraternity also expressed grief towards him and his family. However, despite his father’s demise, the cricketer has decided to take the field for his team in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) season.
One of the best bowlers in the world at the moment, Rashid has set the stage on fire for his team in the three matches he has played so far. The leggie has accounted for five scalps with an economy of 3.41 and all the eyes will be on him when he will step out on the field on Monday at the Adelaide Oval.
Strikers confirm the news
Meanwhile, there were reports of Rashid Khan likely to miss out on the game and flying back home for his father’s last rites. However, the Afghanistan cricketer has shown nerves of steel by deciding to play the game and might leave for home soon after the encounter. Adelaide Strikers released an official statement confirming the same and also expressed their support towards the cricketer and his family.
“The Adelaide Strikers advise that Rashid Khan wants to play in tonight’s match against the Sydney Thunder at Adelaide Oval in honour of his late father. Rashid’s father passed away last night and Rashid has decided that he will stay in Adelaide and play tonight (Monday). The Strikers give their condolences and full support to Rashid and his family during this difficult time. The family have asked that their privacy is respected,” the statement read.
“Today I lost the most important person in my life, father-the everlasting candle. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Now I know why u always asked me to be strong, bcz u knew that today I would need the strength to bear your loss. Will be always in my *prayer emoji*. I miss u,” Rashid wrote in an emotional post on social media on Sunday.
