BBL 2018-19: Tom Curran inks a deal with Sydney Sixers

The eighth edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) gets underway on December 19 in Brisbane, where the Brisbane Heat side will be taking on the defending champions Adelaide Strikers in the opening fixture. The Sydney Sixers as a part of their preparation for the season have sealed a one-year deal with young England fast bowler Tom Curran. The Sixers will be kicking off their BBL 2018-19 campaign with a game against the Perth Scorchers at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on December 22.

Tom was recently a part of the Kerala Knights team in the recently concluded second edition of the T10 League contested in the UAE. He also featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018, where he played for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 5 matches in which he picked up 6 wickets. The English pacer also returned with three wickets in his debut T20I game against South Africa in 2017.

Tom delighted to join Sydney Sixers for BBL 08

He confirmed the signing and mentioned his excitement to be joining the Sydney Sixers for the upcoming T20 season. He stated that it is the thrilling energy and the whole refreshing environment built by the Sixers unit which makes him eager to regroup with his new teammates. The 23-year old Englishman was previously part of the Hobart Hurricanes side in the earlier edition of the T20 tournament down under.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining the Sydney Sixers for the 2018-19 Big Bash. Friends and colleagues have told me what a great team environment it is and how passionate the fans are and I’m hugely excited to experience this all for myself,” Curran was quoted on the official website of the team.

He will be joining his fellow English teammate Joe Denly as the only the second England cricketer in the Sixers side. Tom will be playing in the upcoming BBL edition under the captaincy of Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques, who is skipper of the team.

“I can’t wait to get to Sydney and hopefully help the team have a great season,” added the England pacer.
