BBL 2019-20, Match 14: Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder – A rare Tied game, Tom Curran's cameo, Sixers' domination over Thunder and more stats

The Sydney Sixers bagged two points from the Sydney Smash that ended in a Tie as both the teams ended up with a total of 149 in 20 overs. Callum Ferguson’s 52 off 42 and a 21-ball 32 from Alex Hales helped the Sydney Thunder finish on 149/8. The Sixers kept struggling in the chase until a 17-ball 35 from Tom Curran which nearly got the Sixers over the winning line.
Moises Henriques helped Sixers post 16 runs in the Super over before Curran delivered with the ball. He conceded only five runs in the first two balls but was hit for a six and four on the last two deliveries which weren’t enough for the Thunder.

4 – This game between Sixers and Thunder is only the 4th Tied match in the history of Big Bash League. All the four Tied BBL matches involved Sydney Sixers as one of the teams. Sixers won twice and lost twice in the Super overs across these four matches.
4 – Moises Henriques featured in all the four BBL matches that ended in a Tie; the only player to feature in all those four games. Out of the four Tied BBL games, Moises Henriques featured in three of them as captain. No other captain in the BBL history has featured in more than one tied BBL game. Steve Smith was the skipper of the other Tied BBL game involving Sixers.
Sixers continue their domination over Thunder:
11 – The Sydney Sixers have won as many as 11 BBL matches out of the 16 meetings against the Sydney Thunder including the today’s Super over. They are only the 2nd team to have 11 wins (including Super over wins) against the opposition in the BBL. Melbourne Stars also won 11 BBL matches out of the 16 they played against the Melbourne Renegades.

205.88 – Tom Curran had a strike rate of 205.88 during his 17-ball 35; the 3rd highest strike rate in a BBL inning for the Sydney Sixers (Min: 15 balls). Nic Maddinson scored 61 off 26 balls at 234.61 SR against Melbourne Stars in the 2017-18 season and 36 from 16 balls at 225 SR against Perth Scorchers in 2013-14.
Earlier this week, Curran scored an unbeaten 21-ball 43 at a strike rate of 204.76 during their win over Perth Scorchers. It is the 4th highest SR in this list and the 2nd highest strike rate among the BBL innings of 20+ balls for the Sixers.
Hales and Curran end 2019 on high:
1278 – Alex Hales aggregated 1278 runs in the Twenty20 format this year; the 2nd most T20 runs in a calendar year by a player from England. James Vince has scored 1386 runs in the T20 cricket in 2019. Both the top-order batsmen played exactly 47 innings this year.
53 – Tom Curran claimed 53 wickets across 39 Twenty20s in 2019 which are the 3rd most T20 wickets in a calendar year by an England player. Jofra Archer claimed 61 T20 wickets in 2018 while Harry Gurney has 56 wickets from 41 T20s in 2019 and still has one game to be played.

2010 – Usman Khawaja completed 2000 runs in the Twenty20 format when he was on 6. The left-handed opener scored 1096 in the Big Bash League out of the 2010 T20 runs.
