The Melbourne Stars stormed to their 7th consecutive win by thumping the Perth Scorchers by 8 wickets on Wednesday. A collective effort with the ball by the Stars left the Scorchers bowled out in 13.5 overs for only 86 runs on the board. They lost their last nine wickets for 47 runs and the last seven scalps for just 28 runs. Chasing a low total, the Stars lost a couple of wickets but Marcus Stoinis’ unbeaten 31-ball 39 helped the Stars finish the chase with 8 overs to spare.

All the statistical highlights from a big win over the Scorchers for the Melbourne Stars:

Scorchers’ biggest defeat in terms of balls to spare:

48 – Melbourne Stars’ won this match with 48 balls to spare which makes up for their 2nd biggest win in the BBL in terms of runs. Their highest was with 75 balls to spare against Adelaide Strikers in 2013-14 where they chased down the target of 91 in only 7.3 overs.

This is also the biggest defeat by balls to spare for the Scorchers as their previous biggest such defeat was by 32 balls against Brisbane Heat in 2016-17 edition. The Brisbane team completed the 174-run chase in only 14.4 overs at the WACA.


Stars defeat Scorchers after 3 years:

4 – Melbourne Stars brought an end to their 4-match losing streak in the BBL against Perth Scorchers. This streak began in the semi-final fixture during the 2016-17 season and spread till the 2018-19 edition.


7 – The Stars now have won seven of their 15 meetings in the BBL against Scorchers; the joint-most number of wins for any team against them. Adelaide Strikers also won seven of the 15 BBL matches against the Perth team.


Yet another win for the Stars in this season:

7 – Melbourne Stars now have won each of their previous seven matches in the Big Bash League; the 2nd longest winning streak for the Stars in a BBL tournament. They won 8 successive matches during the 2013-14 season where they won all 8 games in the league phase before losing in the semi-final.


A rare low total for the Scorchers:

86/10 – The total of 86/10 by the Perth Scorchers is now their 3rd lowest total in the Big Bash League. Their lowest of 69 also came against the Stars during the 2012-13 season while the Melbourne Renegades bowled the Scorchers out for just 79 runs.

Overall, this was 4th instance of the Perth Scorchers getting bowled out below 100 in the BBL and three of those instances came against Melbourne Stars only. The 3rd such total was 94/10 during the 2015-16 season at the WACA.


Marcus Stoinis @ 500:

2Marcus Stoinis is the first player with 500+ runs in the ongoing to BBL season and is only the 2nd player to aggregate 500+ runs in two different BBL editions as he scored 533 runs across 13 innings in 2081/19.

D’Arcy Short was the first player to achieve the feat having scored 637 and 572 runs respectively during 2018/18 and 2017/18 season.


Haris Rauf equals Hastings:

16 – The 16 wickets by Haris Rauf in the ongoing Big Bash League are the joint-most number of wickets for the Melbourne Stars in a BBL edition. John Hastings also claimed 16 wickets across 9 matches in the 2014/15 season.
