Cricket Australia has named the team of the tournament for the 2020-21 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). Josh Philippe and Alex Hales are the openers and it’s not quite debatable as they are the leading run-scorers. Hales is sitting at the top with 535 runs with a top score of 110. Philippe, on the other hand, missed out on becoming the first Sydney Sixers’ batter to get a BBL century.

Both of Hales’ Sydney Thunder and Philippe’s Sixers have made it through to the BBL playoffs. Ben McDermott, who’s playing for the Hobart Hurricanes, follows the openers. The Hurricanes, however, couldn’t make the playoffs, finishing with 28 points from 14 matches. Colin Munro was slotted at number four after he notched 411 runs at an average of 34.25 for the Perth Scorchers.

No Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the BBL eleven

The Melbourne Stars, the runners-up of the 2019-20 BBL, couldn’t make the playoffs. But their skipper, Glenn Maxwell, features in the best eleven. He scored 379 runs and also picked up seven wickets with his slow off-breaks. Daniel Christian has been an absolute powerhouse for the Sixers. He picked up 252 runs at a strike-rate of 186.66 and also picked up 13 wickets.

Rashid Khan isn’t a part of the ongoing BBL anymore due to international duties, but he made an impact big enough for Adelaide Strikers to qualify for the playoffs. Even as he performed with the ball in hand, he also churned out some lusty blows with the bat. Jhye Richardson has been excellent for the Scorchers as he picked up 27 wickets from 14 matches at an economy of 7.08.

From the Brisbane Heat, Mark Steketee features in the eleven as he has picked up 22 wickets. He was by far the standout bowler for the Heat in the T20 tournament. But from the same team, Mujeeb Ur Rahman couldn’t make the cut despite picking up a five-wicket haul against the Hurricanes. Adam Zampa and Wes Agar are the other bowlers in the list.

Here’s the BBL team of the tournament-

Josh Philippe, Alex Hales, Ben McDermott, Colin Munro, Glenn Maxwell, Daniel Christian, Rashid Khan, Jhye Richardson, Mark Steketee, Adam Zampa, Wes Agar
