Brisbane Heat finally opened their winning account in the BBL 2020-21 as they sealed a 4-wicket win at home against the Hobart Hurricanes. Lewis Gregory, on his BBL debut, bagged three wickets to leave the Hurricanes at 66/4 by 10th over. The visitors managed to finish with 148/7 in their 20 overs which was never enough for a win.
The opening pair of Max Bryant (31) and Sam Heazlett (48) put on 73 in just six overs before they lost six wickets for 29 runs in 6 overs. But skipper Jimmy Pierson (16*) and James Bazley (31*) took Brisbane over the line with an unbeaten 50-run stand for the 7th wicket.

Brisbane’s winning streak over Hurricanes:
3 – Brisbane Heat now has defeated Hobart Hurricanes in each of their last three matches in the BBL. The Brisbane franchise got the better of Hurricanes in all the three meetings since the start of 2019-20 season. Until the 2018-19 season, Hurricanes won ten of the 14 meetings in the BBL against them.
5 – Five of Brisbane Heat’s seven victories in the BBL against Hobart Hurricanes came at the Gabba in Brisbane. These are the most number of wins for Brisbane against any team in the league at their home ground. Hurricanes have managed to win four BBL games against Heat at the Gabba thus far.
All-round show from D’Arcy:
2 – D’Arcy Short became only the 2nd player in the Big Bash League with the treble of scoring 25+ runs, picking 3+ wickets and also claiming at least one catch. The Hurricanes player scored 27 runs and took three wickets including one of them as “caught and bowled”.
Glenn Maxwell was the first player with the treble as he scored 37 runs, took 3/25 in his four overs and claimed a catch during the 2013-14 season game for Melbourne Stars against Sydney Sixers.
Impactful debut from Gregory:
1 – Lewis Gregory registered bowling figures of 3/22 in his four overs and also took a catch during the HEA vs HUR game. The match was marked to be Gregory’s debut in the Big Bash League and also his maiden T20 on Australian soil.
Steketee’s record against Hurricanes:
14 – Mark Steketee, with the two wickets on Sunday, now holds the record for picking up most wickets in the BBL against Hobart Hurricanes. Steketee’s tally of 14 wickets has surpassed Peter Siddle and Ben Laughlin who have 13 wickets apiece.
Handscomb moves on to the top:
41 – Peter Handscomb now has 41 dismissals as a wicketkeeper in the BBL which are the joint-most dismissals for any wicketkeeper in the history of the league. Alex Carey and Jimmy Pierson also affected 41 dismissals apiece in the BBL thus far.
Decent debut for Bazley:
31* – The unbeaten 31 from debutant James Bazley is the 3rd highest score for the Brisbane Heat while batting at No.8 or lower position in the BBL. Steve Paulsen scored an unbeaten 35 in 2011-12 season against Adelaide Strikers while Ben Cutting made 33* against Melbourne Renegades in the 2012-13 season.
