Hobart Hurricanes ended 2020 with a narrow 1-run victory against Brisbane Heat during a thriller played at the Gabba. The 5-wicket haul by Mujeeb Ur Rahman troubled Hurricanes big time who got bowled out for 150 in 19.4 overs. Hurricanes came strongly with the ball as they picked three wickets inside the first three overs. However, Heat kept hanging around in the chase despite losing wickets regularly. James Bazley smashed an unbeaten 31-ball 49 to keep the home team on top of the chase but a brilliant last over by Scott Boland sealed a win for the Hurricanes.

End of Hurricanes’ losing streak:
3 – Hobart Hurricanes lost each of their previous three matches in the BBL against Brisbane Heat before the 1-run win on Wednesday. Overall, this was the 11th win for the Hurricanes against Brisbane; easily the most for them against any team in BBL.
A narrow win for the Hurricanes:
1 – Hobart Hurricanes’ 1-run win against Brisbane Heat is their narrowest in terms of runs in the BBL history. The previous narrowest win was by three runs also against Heat at the Gabba during the 2017-18 season.
This is also the 2nd time that the Brisbane Heat lost a game by as few as one run in the Big Bash League. They lost to Melbourne Renegades by a 1-run margin in 2016-17 season while chasing the target of 200 runs.
A match of ducks and ‘bowled’ wickets:
4 – A total of four Hobart Hurricanes’ batsmen ended up with a duck in the HUR vs HEA game which are the most by them in a BBL match. Hurricanes’ innings is only the 7th in the BBL to feature four or more batters getting out without scoring a run.
6 – As many as six batters got bowled during Hobart Hurricanes’ innings; the joint-most during any BBL innings thus far. Six batters in the Hurricanes’ innings also got bowled out during the 2014-15 season match at home against Melbourne Renegades.
6 – Six batsmen bagged a duck during HUR vs HEA match which are the joint-most ducks in a BBL match. The 2013-14 season game at the SCG between Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers was the first BBL match to have six ducks while the 2014-15 season game between Melbourne Renegades and Brisbane Heat at the Docklands became the second such game.
A record 5-wicket haul for Mujeeb:
5/15 – Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s bowling figures during HUR vs HEA game are now the best for any player to result in a BBL defeat. The previous best figures came on the 2016 New Year’s Eve match by Sean Abbott (5/16) for Sydney Sixers against the Adelaide Strikers.
5/15 – Mujeeb’s figures of 5/15 during HUR vs HEA is now the best bowling figures for Brisbane Heat in the BBL and also the best figures by any player against the Hobart Hurricanes. The previous best for Brisbane were recorded by Samuel Badree who took 5/22 against Melbourne Stars in 2015-16 season. The previous best BBL figures by anyone against Hurricanes were recorded by Peter Siddle who picked 5/15 for Adelaide Strikers earlier this season
19y 277d – Mujeeb Ur Rahman, at the age of 19 years and 277 days, became the youngest player to bag a 5-wicket haul in the Big Bash League. This was also the maiden fifer in the T20 format for Mujeeb. The previous youngest player to bag a BBL 5-fer was Brendan Doggett (24y 247d when he took 5/35 vs Scorchers in 2017-18) also while representing Brisbane Heat.
