BBL 2020-21: Match 8, HUR vs STR – Siddle’s record fifer, Strikers' streak in Launceston and more stats
Here are all the statistical highlights from Adelaide Strikers’ victory in the HUR vs STR game.
Adelaide Strikers opened their points tally in the BBL 2020-21 with a 5-wicket win against the Hobart Hurricanes at the Aurora Stadium. Hurricanes lost three wickets for just 20 runs on the board before Ben McDermott (46) and Colin Ingram (46) rescued the hosts.
Later, Peter Siddle ran through the Hurricanes’ bottom half as they scored only 30 runs in the last five overs. Chasing 147 to win, Strikers lost two wickets in the very first over but fifties from Jake Weatherald (68*) and Alex Carey (55) got their team over the line with eight balls to spare.

3-0 – Adelaide Strikers now have won all the three BBL matches they played at the Launceston’s Aurora Stadium. They defeated Hobart Hurricanes by 7 wickets during the 2018-19 season and by 10 runs in the 2019-20 edition.
1-5 – Hobart Hurricanes have lost five of the six matches they played in the BBL at the Aurora Stadium in Launceston. Their lone win at this venue came against the Perth Scorchers in the 2018-19 season while chasing 108. Hurricanes lost each of their last four BBL games since the win over the Scorchers.
Siddle’s record 5-fer:
2 – Peter Siddle became only the 2nd player in the BBL to claim a 5-wicket haul for the Adelaide Strikers. Ish Sodhi was the first to pick a 5-for for the Strikers in the BBL when he took 6/11 against Sydney Thunder in 2016-17 season.
5/16 – Siddle’s bowling figures of 5/16 are now the best for any player against the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League. The previous best bowling figures in the BBL against Hurricanes were 5/23 by Nathan Lyon in the 2015-16 season.
36y 20d – Peter Siddle, at the age of 36 years and 20 days, became the oldest player to bag a 5-wicket haul in the Big Bash League. Samuel Badree was the previous oldest as he was 34 years and 311 days old when he took 5/22 for Brisbane Heat against Melbourne Stars in the 2015-16 season.
Milestone match for Weatherald and McDermott:
50 – Jake Weatherald, during HUR vs STR game, became only the 3rd player to feature in 50 BBL matches for the Adelaide Strikers. Michael Neser (58) and Ben Laughlin (50) were the first two players with 50+ BBL appearances for the Strikers.
50 – The HUR vs STR is also the 50th match in the BBL for Ben McDermott who has played as many as 46 matches for the Hobart Hurricanes and two games apiece for Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Renegades.
Weatherald on top of BBL lists:
7 – Jake Weatherald now has been part of seven partnerships of 100+ runs in the Big Bash League; the most by any player. He went past Marcus Stoinis and D’Arcy Short who have been part of six century stands in the BBL.
1304 – Weatherald is now the leading run-getter in the Big Bash League for the Adelaide Strikers having scored 1304 runs. The left-hander went past Travis Head’s tally of 1279 runs with his unbeaten 68-run knock.
A record stand by Carey-Weatherald pair:
3 – Jake Weatherald and Alex Carey now have shared three century stands in the BBL- the joint-most number of 100-run stands for any pair in the history of the league. Chris Lynn-Brendon McCullum, Josh Inglis-Liam Livingstone and D’Arcy Short-Matthew Wade are the other three pairs with three century partnerships in the BBL.
D’Arcy @ 500 runs:
501 – D’Arcy Short completed 500 runs against Adelaide Strikers in only 10 BBL matches. He is now the 3rd player to amass 500 BBL runs against an opponent after Chris Lynn (536 runs vs Sydney Thunder) and Aaron Finch (503 runs vs Melbourne Stars).
