Afghanistan T20I skipper and all-rounder Mohammad Nabi will play for the Melbourne Renegades in the upcoming season. This is the fifth consecutive year when he will be featuring for the team and penned down the deal on November 10 (Wednesday). He recently led Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup admirably well amidst political turmoil back home with Taliban taking over.
Afghanistan defeated Scotland and Namibia by big margins and at one stage, they were also in the hunt to make it to the semi-final of the tournament. However, losing to New Zealand in their final Super 12 game cost them a chance to make it to the top four.
Coming back to Nabi’s BBL signing, the all-rounder is delighted to be part of the Renegades’ family again. He also hoped to win the title to bring back smile on their fans’ faces who have been enduring tough times due to the pandemic.
“It’s great to be linking up with the Renegades once again. Going into my fifth Big Bash campaign, I feel like part of their family. I hope we can win another title and give our fans something to smile about after such a difficult time for everyone,” he said according to Cricbuzz.
Renegades head coach delighted to have Nabi back
Melbourne Renegades head coach was also delighted to Mohammad Nabi back in the set up for the fifth consecutive BBL season. He pointed out the BBL record of No.1 T20I all-rounder and also termed him as an important part of the team’s middle-order. Nabi has played 34 matches so far in BBL, all for the Renegades, scoring 625 runs at an average of 28.40 with three fifties and also picked 25 wickets.
“It’s great to have a player of Mohammad Nabi’s quality locked in for BBL|11. His record in the Big Bash speaks for itself and he brings a wealth of experience from playing in T20 tournaments around the world. Nabi has been an important part of our middle order and has the ability to change games quickly. He has the flexibility with both bat and ball to play various roles for our team. We’re looking forward to what he can bring this year,” Saker said.
