The 2021-22 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) is set to get underway on Sunday (December 5) and fans can’t keep calm. This will be the 11th season of the Australia-based T20 competition and cricket lovers must not expect anything less than mind-boggling action over the 22 yards. Defending champions Sydney Sixers will battle it out against Melbourne Stars at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the opening fixture of the tournament.

Like the preceding edition of the competition, a total of eight teams will battle it out across 61 games including league-stage clashes and knock-out matches. The first 19 fixtures of the tournament will take place before Christmas. However, it is going to be a jam-packed schedule in the next two weeks as 28 matches will be played including eight double-headers. Also, a triple-header will take place on January 19 which would mark the conclusion of the league stage.

Speaking of the qualifying fixtures, a total of five matches will be played in the next stage. The first and second-placed teams will meet in the Qualifier with a place in the final at stakes. At the same time, the fifth and fourth-placed side will lock horns in the Eliminator to determine a place in the knock-out, where the third-placed team is already slotted.

The winner of the knock-out will then meet the loser of the Qualifier in the Challenger to determine the other place in the final clash. Subsequently, the final will take place on January 28 and we’ll see a team lifting the illustrious title. With many sides studded with T20 stalwarts, predicting the favourites would be hard. However, one thing is pretty certain that the competition is set to witness some exciting battle between the bat and the ball.
