BBL 2021: Nic Maddinson and Holly Ferling join Melbourne Renegades
Nic Maddinson had spent several years with the Melbourne Stars team.
Nic Maddinson and Holly Ferling have moved one Melbourne franchise to another for the upcoming season of the Big Bash League 2021-22. The two players have shifted from Melbourne Stars to Melbourne Renegades. These two signings are meant to help the Melbourne Renegades have a better campaign this time around.
Maddinson, the left-handed batter who plays for Victoria, has signed a three-year deal with Stars. On the other hand, Ferling has penned a contract for just one season, the Women’s Big Bash 2021-22. Two signings are prevalent given how Renegades have been struggling off late in the Big Bash League.
Melbourne Renegades, based at the Marvel (Dockland’s) Stadium in Melbourne had won the men’s Big Bash title in 2018-19. However, they ended up as the eighth-ranked side in the two subsequent seasons. The women’s team ended as the seventh-ranked team in the last season. David Saker, the head coach of the men’s side spoke about the signing of Maddinson.
Nic Maddinson gives us another good combination: Renegades coach David Saker
“Together with Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, and Sam Harper, Nic gives us another good combination option and obvious experience in the top half of the batting order,” David Saker said and was quoted by ESPNCricinfo. “He’s also got good hands in the field and has captained other teams which will be beneficial for us.”
Simon Helmot, the head coach of the women’s Renegades team also spoke on the signing of Ferling. He spoke about the experience which Ferling brings to the table and expects her to be a great influence on the young players. “Holly is a great addition to our overall bowling lineup and depth. She’s played more than 60 WBBL matches now and represented Australia in every format of the game. She’ll be great for our younger players and a fantastic ambassador for the club,” Helmot said.
Talking about some of the other signings which happened recently. Joe Burns has moved to the Melbourne Stars from the Brisbane Heat. Lance Morris has shifted from the Stars to move to Perth Scorchers. Nicole Bolton also made a switch from Scorchers to the Sixers. The Women’s Big Bash League will start on October 14 while the men’s edition of the tournament will begin on December 5.
