Brisbane Heat

Brisbane Heat don’t have the services of Chris Lynn anymore, but they showed the other night they were a good enough side to compete even without the big man. Chasing 180 against the Hurricanes at home, they got very close to the target and if Ross’s wicket had not fallen at the wrong time, they perhaps would have been able to get over the line as well.

Sam Heazlett was McCullum’s opening partner in Lynn’s absence and the left-hander played some sparkling shots before getting out on 45. The skipper himself was in red-hot form too as the duo stitched a half century opening partnership and gave the Heat the ideal platform in the chase. However, the lower order couldn’t quite launch on that set platform and the Heat remained short of the target.

The Hurricanes all of a sudden have found their feet after losing 2 games in a row and have registered 4 back to back victories to climb up in the standings. They are however still not in top 4 as their net run rate is quite low and that’s because all the 4 games they have won have been close victories. The low NRR won’t concern them thought as long as they are winning games.

D’Arcy Short is almost single-handedly carrying the Hurricanes’ batting on his shoulders as the left-hander has 2 nineties and a hundred to his name in the last 4 games.  The bowling has been okay too as everybody has chipped in, but the one man who has stood out is Jofra Archer who has bowled at key stages of the game and has managed to nail his areas.
