Tomorrow is the last day of the league round of Big Bash League (BBL) season 7 and it is still not decided which four teams will make it to the semis. The Brisbane Heat and the Melbourne Renegades will go head to head in Match 40 of the tournament and the result will probably decide the 4th semi-finalist.

This is the 5th home game that the Heat are going to play this season. They have been very dominating at home, winning 3 out of the 4 games. The one they lost, they lost by a very close margin. They have got a squad ideally suited for the conditions at Gabba and they capitalise every time they play there.

Pitch Report

The Gabba traditionally is a quick surface, but in the recent times, the bounce there has been quite spongy, something which is called the “Tennis Ball bounce” in the cricketing circles. The pace of the wicket has also been inconsistent and if that’s the case tomorrow, the team winning the toss will like to bat first as batting will get tougher as the match progresses.

Brisbane Heat

There couldn’t have been any better news than Chris Lynn’s comeback for the Brisbane Heat. They have dearly missed the hard-hitting right-hander since the time he was sidelined due to injury, however, they have fortunately got him back for this last game and they will be expecting an impact innings from him straight away.

Also, another trump card for the Heat tomorrow will be the leg-spinner Yasir Shah. The spinners have changed the games in the middle phase of the innings quite consistently throughout this BBL and Shah will have to do the same tomorrow. The Pakistan leg-spinner has been in decent form, but he will have to bring out his absolute “A” game as the Heat need a victory by a big margin.

Predicted XI: Brendon McCullum (C), Ben Cutting, Brendon Doggett, Sam Heazlett, Josh Lalor, Chris Lynn, Jimmy Peirson, Alex Ross, Yasir Shah, Mark Steketee, Mitchell Swepson

Melbourne Renegades

The Renegades are going to be without their three main players Aaron Finch, Cameron White and Brad Hodge. While the first two are with the Australian national side, Hodge has flown to India to take part in the IPL auctions as he is the coach of one of the IPL sides. He is unavailable for selection and in his absence, Dwayne Bravo will take over as the captain of the side.

While Bravo has been good with the ball for the Renegades, Bravo the batsman has gone missing. He is otherwise a very good finisher with the bat, but so far has seemed to be playing only as a bowler in this edition of the BBL. He has hardly made any difference with the bat and that’s something he will want to change tomorrow.

Predicted XI: Dwayne Bravo (C), Marcus Harris, Tom Cooper, Brad Hogg, Jon Holland, Tim Ludeman, Kieron Pollard, Kane Richardson, Matt Short, Chris Tremain, Jack Wildermuth

Probable top performers

Chris Lynn (Brisbane Heat) | Brad Hogg (Melbourne Renegades)
