These are unprecedented times, aren’t they? In the wake of the escalating situation concerning the World Health Organisation-accredited pandemic that is the coronavirus COVID-19, the entire world has been put under lockdown. From schools, colleges, gyms, offices to sports, everything has been put on a backburner as the world comes into terms with the proliferation of the virus, which emerged from the Wuhan city of China late last year.

The world of sports has been the hardest hit arenas, with premier events like Premier League, La Liga, Olympics and Indian Premier League (IPL) getting postponed. And, with so much time on their hands, former and current cricketers are taking to social media to interact with their fans via Question-Answer sessions.

Former Australian batsman and renowned commentator Dean Jones also joined the bandwagon on Wednesday where he answered a slew of questions posted by the fans. One of the fans asked him, as to which of the Twenty20 leagues among Indian Premier League and Big Bash League is the toughest to win. “IPL or BIG BASH  the tougher T20 competition to win?” asked the user.

And, Dean Jones was quick to reply that the BBLis not in the same league as compared to the Indian Premier League or Pakistan Super League or Global Canada T20 or Caribbean Premier League or even the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League. Indirectly, he responded in BBL’s favour, Australia’s premier T20 competition. “Big bash is not in the same hemisphere as IPL, PSL, GT20 CPL BPL” Jones replied.

IPL 2020 may well be cancelled in the wake of the lockdown imposed in the country

Meanwhile, after the Indian government ordered a countrywide lockdown till April 15, it is increasingly looking that the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League may well be cancelled.

Kings XI Punjab co-owner Ness Wadia has urged the BCCI to consider cancelling the cash-rich league as he feels that, being a premier event, they need to act with great responsibility, asserting that even contemplating about the IPL at this juncture is inhumane.

“The BCCI should really consider postponing the IPL now. As a premier event, we need to act with great responsibility. Contemplation of IPL is inhumane right now. Lets say even if the situation improves by May and I hope it does, who is going to come and play? Will the (foreign players) be even allowed to enter the country?” Ness Wadia was quoted as saying by India Today.
