It is worth noting that despite Amy's all-round efforts, the Melbourne Renegades failed to make it to the semi-finals of the competition.
After over a month of thrilling contests, the 2017-18 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) and the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) approached the final day. On the eve of the final day of the tournaments, the players of the season for both the competitions were named. As per the reports in Fox Sports, Hobart Hurricanes batsman D’Arcy Short has been named as the BBL’s player of the tournament.
Meanwhile, New Zealand Women all-rounder Amy Satterthwaite (Melbourne Renegades) has won the WBBL’s player of the tournament award. In the BBL 2017-18, D’Arcy Short proved to be a revelation for the Hurricanes. He amassed 504 runs in 10 innings during the league stages. This is the highest tournament aggregate by a player in a season in the history of the tournament.
The highlight of D’Arcy Short’s magnificent run in the competition was his record shattering knock of unbeaten 122 runs that had come against the Brisbane Heat. The knock was the highest ever individual score in the tournament. His efforts helped the team reach the finals of the tournament this season. The Hobart Hurricanes will take on Adelaide Strikes in the finals of the competition.
The results for the best player were calculated based on the number of votes. The two field umpires cast votes on a 3-2-1 basis after each game with Short collecting 26 votes. Shane Watson from the Sydney Thunder fetched 18 votes while Alex Carey of the Strikers had 16 votes to his name.

The WBBL 2017-18 season was done and dusted recently with the Sydney Sixers taking away the ultimate glory. The Sixers beat the Perth Scorchers by a thumping margin of 9 wickets in the finals at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
