BCB appoint Sridharan Sriram as head coach for Asia Cup 2022, T20 World Cup

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed former India all-rounder Sridharan Sriram as their head coach for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 and the T20 World Cup down under in October-November. The news has been officially confirmed by a BCB director who had confirmed Sriram’s appointment for the coaching position. At the same time, the BCB has also made it clear that they have not axed coach Russell Domingo and he would continue to be associated with guiding the Bangladesh players in red-ball cricket as they gear up to host India in a two-match Test series this November. The Asia Cup 2022 kicks off on August 27, with Sri Lanka facing Afghanistan in the curtain-raiser. Bangladesh begin their campaign against Afghanistan on August 30 at Sharjah. We have chosen Sridharan Sriram up until the World Cup: BCB Director “Yes, we have chosen Sriram up until the World Cup,” said a BCB director as quoted by ‘The Daily Star’. “As we are moving forward with a fresh mindset, the new coach will be seen from the Asia Cup onwards. And since the T20 World Cup is our main target, he (a new coach) will not get time to adapt if he is not recruited from the Asia Cup. Many may say that there is not much left for the Asia Cup. However, as I said, our main focus is the T20 World Cup,” he added. Sriram could not achieve fame and fortune as a player for the Indian team as he only played eight One Day Internationals between 2000 to 2004. Inconsistent performances, as well as a cut-throat competition in the early 2000s, meant that the Tamil Nadu cricketer was completely overlooked by the selectors as well as the team management after a point time. With his cricketing career not clicking, Sriram tried to be associated with the game as a coach. In fact, he had served as Australia’s assistant and spin-bowling coach for a considerable amount of time. He was the Aussies’ spin bowling coach when former all-rounder and two-time World Cup winner Darren Lehmann was at the helm of affairs as the head coach.
