There has hardly been a dearth of controversy and talk around the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), be it about the poor broadcasting, commentators, playing 5 foreign players in a team, the BPL has not been in the headlines for the best of reasons. In an exception, even Mashrafe Mortaza’s ‘zero’ jersey also caught the attention of viewers.
However, the newest addition to the talk around the league is smoking inside the stadium. BCB broadcast partner Moinul Haque Chowdhury was seen smoking several times inside the stadium in the Sylhet matches, which is against the ICC and BCB’s code of conduct.
Not the first time
Moinul has been involved in controversies couple of times before. In 2016 Asia Cup final he was involved in a controversy after the match which hit headlines. He also had a fight with BPL franchise Barisal Bulls co-owner Rizwan Bin Faruque.
The BCB had filed a general diary with the Mirpur Police Station in Dhaka on January 29, accusing Rizwan and two other individuals of hatching a conspiracy against the tournament. Rizwan blamed Moinul for influencing the board to file the diary against him.
He publicly shoved Moinul and head-butted him during the prize distribution ceremony of the Asia Cup final, an incident witnessed by most of the BCB high-ups, foreign dignitaries, players and the journalists. As a result, BCB slapped a life ban on Barisal Bulls co-owner, as reported by bdcrictime.
This time, it won’t be surprising if Moinul faces a ban if he doesn’t stop his acts. BCB have already sent a letter to him as a warning. It is possible that he could get a long-term ban if he is seen smoking again inside the stadium.
