BCB chief Nazmul Hasan calls players’ strike a ploy to sabotage tour to India

October 21 brought turmoil in Bangladesh cricket that seemingly is not coming to an end. Ever since captain Shakib Al Hasan announced that more than 50 players including him are going on a strike in order to get the Bangladesh Cricket Board to approve their list of 11 demands which covered many aspects of players’ welfare.

But despite the two sides coming to an amicable situation, things have worsened for the Bangladesh players and the national cricket board. The players called off their strike on Wednesday, they are still furious over some issues that went down during the meeting. Especially chief Nazmul Hasan shouting at Mehidy Hasan Miraj and BCB threatening to sue Shakib for making a deal without their permission.

Things have gotten worse with premier batsman Tamim Iqbal choosing to opt-out of the India tour due to family issues. This had led to the BCB chief Nazmul Hasan alleging that all this strike and other things were nothing but a plan by them to pressure the board and sabotage the tour to India.

I had specific information that this was a conspiracy to sabotage India tour, says Nazmul Hasan  

“You people (media) haven’t yet seen anything about the India tour. Just wait and watch. If I am saying that I had specific information that this was a conspiracy to sabotage India tour, then you should believe me,” he was quoted as saying to Bangladesh daily Prothom Alo.

He mentioned that the players didn’t tell him about the strike and he feels he was wrong to agree to their demands. “I should have told the players, ‘Unless you call off strike, we will not sit with you guys across the negotiation table.’ Speaking to various member boards, I felt that this should have been our approach but the media also created pressure on us,” the BCB President added.

The Bangladesh tour to India begins on November 3 with the first of the three T20I matches to be played in Delhi. The first of the two-Tests will be played from November 14 in Indore, while Kolkata will host the second Test from November 22.
