Nazmul Hasan, the president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has lashed out at the skipper Mushfiqur Rahim after the loss against Australia. The two-Test series ended at levels as Bangladesh fluffed a golden opportunity to clean sweep the Aussies at home. The host skipper Mushfiqur Rahim was also unsure about his role in the side which indicates all is not well in Bangladesh cricket right now.
There has already been a lot of debate over his role in the side as wicketkeeper/captain well before the Australia series. He had also handed over the gloves to Litton Das, the young wicketkeeper in the first Test against Sri Lanka. But was back behind the stumps for the next Test. Mushfiqur, however, feels he will have a better idea about what he is expected to do in the Test side if the board top officials come forward and explain it to him.
The problem lies with him
Nazmul Hasan was furious when asked about Mushfiqur’s comments post-Australia series and lashed out at the captain. “I think the problem lies with him and it is clear. Doesn’t Mashrafe do captaincy? He did not face any such problem. I can write it down… Shakib will not face such an issue when he is leading the Twenty20 side,” he said.
“The decision lies with the captain. We can give a strategy from outside but it is the captain who takes the decision. Can you make Mashrafe change his mind? If he thinks someone should out to play, he will make sure he goes there,” he was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
He also cleared that the skipper was given the option of batting up the order and playing as a specialist batsman for Australia series. “We asked him whether he will keep wickets. We have also asked him whether he is interested to bat at number four. I have to sit with him and clear these issues,” Hasan continued.
But Mushfiqur has been adamant and said that he has no control over the matter. He also went on to say that he will do what team management tells him to do.
“It is not up to me. It was not my decision not to keep wickets in Sri Lanka. I don’t have any problem keeping wickets. I want to contribute to the team in any way possible for as long as I play. I will do as the team management says. You better ask this question to the higher authorities. It would (also give me a clear idea),” he stated.
