Australia were supposed to host Bangladesh for 2 Tests and 3 ODIs in August this year, however, a busy schedule on their calendar led to the cancellation of the tour, which is why the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has once again sent a proposal to Cricket Australia (CA) for arranging a limited-overs series, and are hopeful that they will travel there after 10 years.
The last time Bangladesh toured Australia for a bilateral series was in 2008, before which they played a Test there in 2003. BCB is intent on hosting Australia, and have made a fresh proposal to their cricket board. They have offered Australia to host a series comprising five ODIs and two T20Is which will have fewer days of play if compared to the earlier proposed Test series.
In 2018 so far, Bangladesh have had a busy schedule. They played tri-nation ODI series at home which involved Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, followed by Tests and T20Is against Sri Lanka, and then the recently concluded Nidahas Trophy tri-series in Sri Lanka with India as the third team. Their next assignment a three-match ODI series in India against Afghanistan as the latter doesn’t have a home ground yet.
Bangladesh’s behaviour under scanner
The behaviour of Bangladesh players from the virtual semi-final of the Nidahas Trophy came under the scanner. Led by Shakib Al Hasan, some of their players protested an umpiring decision that went against their favour, and the game was marred by some very ugly scenes. Bangladesh eventually won the game but disrespectfully.
They have a history of similar issues and are not known for showing respect towards the opponent players, as was evident from the way Mushfiqur Rahim had publicly celebrated India’s semi-final loss to West Indies in the World T20 2016. Team India, in particular, have always been at the receiving end of their poor demeanour.
Bangladesh have made rapid strides in international cricket. However, going forward, the captain and his troop need to be more cautious of their behaviour on and off the field.
