BCB rubbishes rumours of head coach's resignation
In the past as well, he had pulled out last minute after having considered the offer.
Champaka Ramanayake currently with the High-Performance team to train the future pace bowlers of Bangladesh, was sceptical when he heard the ongoing rumours about the Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha signing off from his position. There were reports that he took the decision about his future with the Bangladesh cricket.
Ever since Graham Ford stepped down, Sri Lanka have been in a coach hunting spree. If reports are to be believed, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has been on the verge of signing Hathurusingha owing to his top run with the Bangladesh team. Besides, the reports also suggest that he is unsure about his future with the either of two, i.e. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, and was yet to make a decision.
BCB is confident
However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Ismail Haider Mallick sounded confident that Hathurusingha is not going anywhere and ensured that he was here to stay. He’s contracted as the head coach of the Bangladesh team till the 2019 World Cup.
Mallick believes that the coach will stay in spite of the offers from Sri Lanka. He expected Chandika to show his respect towards the current contract signed as the Bangladesh coach. He was offered the coach position even in the past but had earlier refused because of BCB’s persistence as well as his own personal reasons. He had pulled out last minute after having considered the offer.
Bangladesh have scaled new heights under his tenure. Right from qualifying for World Cup quarter-finals to semi-finals in the Champions Trophy, right from ODI series victories against India, South Africa and Pakistan etc to Test victories versus England, Sri Lanka and Australia recently. They closely missed out on winning the Australian series.
For the moment, everything seems poised as the Bangladesh Cricket Board looks forward to having the services of Hathurasingha in the future as well.
