The associate nations have moved forward a long way from where they were in the past few years. The fact that teams like Afghanistan are beating the likes of Zimbabwe and West Indies in a testimony to the above statement. Players like Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Zadran have even earned big IPL contracts. Even Bangladesh has worked a lot on their cricket as they have beaten big teams in crunch games in the World Cup.
Traveling issues
Coming June, Bangladesh were set to face Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series to be held in India. The proposed venue for the series was decided as Dehradun as per earlier agreement. However, the cricket board of Bangladesh is in talks with the BCCI to make a change in the proposed venue since Bangladesh will be playing a full series against West Indies following the Afghanistan series and they want to play at a venue that’s comfortable for traveling.
“We told them (BCCI) to reconsider the venue location so that it is convenient for our players. As we will tour West Indies for a full tour after the Afghanistan series It would be better for players if the venue is convenient for traveling. Dehradun is fine but we are looking for a convenient venue and it would be better if the series can be held in Kolkata or Bangalore. Obviously, we are in talks and I am sure BCCI will help us in this matter.” BCB president Nazmul Hasan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.com.
Afghanistan had also earned a test status recently and they are set to face India in a one-off test match on June 14. The BCB wants to conduct the three-match ODI series just before the historic test match. The initial plan was to hold the ODI series in UAE but due to certain issues, India was chosen as the designated venue.
