BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary reacts to Sreesanth's comments
We can see how Sreesanth would react to this in the coming days.
Sreesanth was banned by the BCCI when he was arrested by Delhi Police along with Rajasthan teammates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan on charges of spot fixing in the 2013 edition of IPL . That day onwards Sreesanth was continuously fighting with the BCCI to remove the ban on him.
A few months ago, his efforts were successful as a single-judge bench of the Kerala High Court passed an order that lifted the ban on the bowler. The court had also dropped all the charges against Sreesanth after he filed a plea challenging the life ban imposed on him.
But BCCI appealed to the Division Bench of Kerala High Court against lifting the life-ban on the pacer and the Kerala HC restored the ban. From then, Sreesanth was verbally challenging the BCCI to remove the ban and asked why they were only taking actions on him and not giving out the names of other 13 cricketers who were also involved.
War of words
The latest incident in this group of events is when Sreesanth told media that BCCI has only banned him for playing in India and therefore he is free to play for any other country.
“BCCI has imposed the ban, not ICC. If not India, I can play for any other country, because I am 34 now and I can only play for maximum six more years. As a person who loves cricket, I want to play cricket. And not only that, BCCI is a private firm; it is only us who say that this is the Indian team, but you know BCCI is a private body after all,” Sreesanth was quoted as saying in an event in Dubai by Deccan Chronicle.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary on Friday said former pacer Sreesanth is indulging in empty talk by saying he can play for any other country.
We can see how Sreesanth would react to this in the coming days. He has been a splendid bowler in his playing days constantly bowling with fiery pace and if had not been banned would have been a first team player.
