The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) looks all set to challenge the Kerala High Court verdict on lifting the life ban of fast bowler S Sreesanth. Earlier, the court revoked BCCI’s decision to impose the life ban on the speedster. The court stated that its complete injustice towards Sreesanth as he is already acquitted in the case and all the criminal charges have been dropped against him.

The whole saga started in May 2013, when Delhi police had arrested Sreesanth and two of his Rajasthan Royals teammates, Ajit Chandilia and Ankit Chavan, on charges of spot-fixing. As a result of the arrest, BCCI imposed a life ban on all the three cricketers. However, in 2016 had acquitted Sreesanth from the 2013 Indian Premier League spot-fixing case, but the BCCI refused to lift the life ban on the cricketers for breaching its code of conduct.

The order needs to be challenged

As per the rules of BCCI, no cricketer in the past has been allowed to continue playing after being involved in spot-fixing. BCCI continues to follow its old words in the present situation also. “We don’t agree with the order. It definitely needs to be challenged and within a week the appeal will be filed in the Kerala High Court,” said a BCCI official as quoted by Sportstarlive.

“We were always clear on this case as the board is firm on its zero tolerance policy on corruption and match-fixing,” he added.

Want to make a comeback

In the midst of all drama, the 34-year old pacer still wishes to make a comeback to the national team and play for his country. He has represented his country in 27 Tests and 53 ODIs and picked up 87 and 75 wickets respectively. The right-arm quick bowler was also part of the team’s winning campaign in the World T20 2007 in South Africa.
