Reports suggest that the BCCI working committee will announce the new coach on the 24th of June. Although the coach will assume his duties only in July with the Indian side, the board is all set to appoint a coach almost a month before the team leaves for the Caribbean. The board had received 57 applications for the position of head coach following their advertisement posting. The move comes as the BCCI aims to fill the position left by Zimbabwean coach Duncan Fletcher.
The BCCI Working committee is expected to zero in on a coach after thoroughly reviewing the applications sent in by the applicants. Apart from the head coach, the board is also working on the ratification of the venues for the upcoming edition of the Ranji Trophy. This will mainly involve ratifying the decisions taken by the board’s Technical committee.
Among the 57 applicants for the head coach of India role, Ravi Shastri is the clear favorite given the fact that he served as team director as well as having a good rapport with the Indian players in the squad. Shastri however, faces competition in the form of former Indian batsman and the coach Sandeep Patil. However, the stiffer competition will come from Anil Kumble. The former Indian skipper and mentor of the Mumbai Indians is popular among the fans and is also highly expected to become the next coach.
Also, a call will be taken on the reforms provided in the Justice Lodha report. As such there could be debates and discussions on this all-important issue too at the June 24 meeting.
