The Indian selectors have announced the squad for the ODI and T20I series and there hasn’t been too many surprises. Suresh Raina once again missed out, while pacer Shardul Thakur makes it to the list. Skipper Virat Kohli is very much in the squad and will lead the unit. Spin duo- Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin have been rested for the series. Manish Pandey finds a spot, thanks to his recent heroics in the tri-nation series in South Africa.
It was reported earlier that Jadeja and Ashwin are likely to be rested for the limited overs series, due to the excessive workload. Yuvendra Chahal and chinaman Kuldeep Yadav makes it to the list. Kuldeep is currently playing the 3rd Test match, as he replaced Jadeja, who has been suspended for breaching the ICC’s code of conduct. India were runners-up during the Champions Trophy and convincingly clinched the last ODI series against West Indies. Veteran Southpaw Yuvraj Singh was also ignored after a poor run in England earlier this year.
The ODI series starts from August 20, with the 1st ODI set to take place in Rangiri Dambulla international stadium. The 2nd and 3rd ODI will be played in Pallekele International Cricket Stadium while the remaining two games will take place in Colombo. India have already won the Test series 2-0, and the 3rd Test match is underway. India scored 487 in the first innings, after opener Shikhar Dhawan and all-rounder Hardik Pandya, guided India to a massive total. Pandya playing his 1st Test series, scored the fastest century at no 8 spot.
