BCCI announces women's squad for Sri Lanka ODI and T20I series
The tour will also be Ramesh Powar's maiden stint as the coach of the Indian Women's national team.

India Women are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka in September for a three-match ODI and five-match T20I series. The One Dayers will be a part of the 2017-20 ICC Women’s Championship. In the meantime, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced both the 50-overs and 20-overs squads.
While Mithali Raj will lead the ODI team, Harmanpreet Kaur has been appointed as the T20 skipper. Both squads consist of 15 members and look a power-packed lineup on paper. One major omission was Jhulan Goswami from the T20 team. the Bengal-born speedster announced her retirement from T20Is.
Can the women prodigies comeback?
The women’s team last played in the Asia Cup back in June in Kuala Lumpur and couldn’t win the championship for the maiden time in the history of the event. Previously, all the six editions were won by the Women in Blue. However, they slumped in a cliffhanger against Bangladesh in the final to taste defeat. The team has gone through a turbulent phase ever since the debacle.
Tushar Arothe stepped down as the coach of the national team over a disagreement with the players. Thereafter, the management appointed former Indian cricketer Ramesh Powar as their new coach and the Lankan tour will be his first assignment. After their disappointing outings in the Asia Cup, the team would be keen to restamp their authority on their opponents.
