BCCI awaits police investigation on the top Bollywood actor

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 has come to an end, with the returning franchise Chennai Super Kings taking the honours beating the well-rounded Sunrisers Hyderabad. The third title for the Super Kings helped them level the Mumbai Indians at three titles apiece. For MS Dhoni & Co. the victory was a sweet one and for Dhoni in-particular the season was a grand success.

Following the conclusion of the 11th edition of the IPL, various news reports suggested that Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan was summoned by the Thane Police under the Public Gambling Act for his involvement in the IPL 2008 betting scandal following the arrest of bookie Sonu Jalan/Mald.

Match fixing or just betting?

However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has refused to comment anything on the allegation with regards to the actor. “Police are investigating the case and it is too premature for us to say,” Ajit Singh of BCCI Anti-corruption unit said to Times Now.

According to the report, the actor has allegedly lost 2.8 crore Indian rupees during a bet. Further, the news channel also reported that there was a conflict between the bookie and the actor at the Police station with the latter not paying the amount.

Further, it reached a level where the bookie threatened the actor that he will release his name in the media outlet and his name will be exposed. Jalan also told investigators about two matches fixed by him with the assistance of few other associates.

The two matches that the bookie revealed were the Test match between Australia and Sri Lanka and the other one being a domestic match in Pakistan. The Australia-Sri Lanka Test certainly had so much drama on Day 1, as a total of 21 wickets were lost on the opening day leading to widespread rumours of match-fixing.

According to Times Now, for this match, Sonu, Prem Taneja (a bookie from Andheri) and Junior Kolkata, a business partner of Sonu travelled to the Island nation and fixed with the curator.
