The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released a statement after a lot of rumours were floating on social media with regards to Rahul Johri, the BCCI CEO’s absence in the ICC-CEC meeting hosted in Singapore. Johri is supposed to submit his response to the Committee of Administrators (CoA) after an anonymous woman accused him of sexual harassment.

The BCCI had confirmed that the “Impression” created on social media that Mr Amitabh Choudhary, the acting secretary was sent as a substitute for Mr Johri made no sense. In a statement released by the board, they also suggested that Choudhary was one of the board of directors.

“Ever since it was decided that Mr. Rahul Johri would not attend the ICC-CEC meeting, an impression has been created that Mr. Amitabh Choudhary, Acting secretary BCCI, is being sent as a ‘substitute’ for Mr Johri,” read the BCCI statement.

“It must be noted Mr. Choudhary is a Director on the ICC Board of Directors, the highest ICC forum, for nearly two years now and has been representing India/BCCI at the meetings in his capacity as the ICC Board Director,” the statement added.

He is additionally standing for Mr. Johri: BCCI

The richest cricketing board also confirmed that Amitabh Choudhary would’ve traveled to Singapore even if the CEO was available to go. The acting secretary has been a pivotal part of the Board of Directors in recent times and was already designated with some agendas.

But owing to certain circumstances, he is filling up the boots of Johri as confirmed by BCCI. Although they didn’t confess what circumstances forced the CEO to not travel for such an important meeting, they made it clear to the fans that the rumors are pretty much true.

“Choudhary was scheduled to attend the ICC Board of Directors meeting in the ongoing ICC conference even if Mr. Johri was going to attend the Chief Executives’ meeting.

“Owing to certain circumstances, Mr. Johri is not attending the current meeting, which is attended by the respective Chief Executives of the full member countries. Mr. Choudhary, is, therefore, only, additionally standing in for Mr. Johri,” the statement added.
