BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has said that the board will look out for players from the North-East regions and won’t leave any chance of tapping new talent. The National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru will soon be conducting a camp for budding cricketers from the north-eastern states to help them improve their skill-set.

The players will be given the best infrastructural facilities and around 150 cricketers from various parts of Mizoram, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Sikkim will be a part of the camp and will be guided by the NCA head and India’s veteran cricketer VVS Laxman. 25 players from every mentioned region have been picked for the camp based on their performances up to the quarter-finals of the Cooch Behar Trophy (U-19).

“This initiative by BCCI will give young and budding talents equal opportunity to hone their skills and represent India across formats. NE has enormous potential in sports and the board will keep no stone unturned to ensure that we are able to tap the best talent for the country,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah tweeted.

The players will be trained under a pool of experienced coaches

As per reports, it is said that the players will be trained under renowned coaches, one of the names includes Troy Cooley as the bowling coach. Hrishikesh Kanitkar will be the batting coach, who has led the U19 Indian team to their title win, and the spinners will be trained by Sairaj Bahutule, a former India spinner.

While the BCCI has not said how long the camp will go, it is believed that the NCA has scheduled a variety of coaching programs, including U19 Zonal Cricket Academy camps in locations like Surat and Vijaywada, to mention a few.

With the goal of increasing the number of fast bowlers, nine pacers from each region will be made a part of the camp. The camp will further provide assistance in selecting players for India’s U19 squad.
