BCCI expresses condolence on the demise of Ramakant Achrekar

Ramakant Achrekar, the man behind the making of legendary Sachin Tendulkar, breathed his last on Wednesday, January 2. The 87-year-old cricket coach had been fighting the battle of old age and its malady and he finally crossed the great divide at his residence at Shivaji Park in Dadar, Mumbai.
As a testament to his services to cricket, the former selector for Mumbai cricket team was offered the prestigious Dronacharya Award by the Indian government in 1990. The demise of Achrekar has created a void and bereavement in the Indian cricketing fraternity as people across the nation have been expressing their condolence. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also conveyed its sympathy regarding the unfortunate event on its official Twitter handle. The tweet also spoke highly of the Malvan-born for his priceless contribution to Indian cricket.
‘Achrekar trained players to be fine human beings’
The commiserative tweet from the BCCI mentioned that Achrekar didn’t just stop at creating great cricketers as he went on to produce good human beings by teaching discipline and morality to his students. The tweet also didn’t fail to recognize the unsung yet precious contributions from the founder of Kamath Memorial Cricket Club.
The tweet reads, “The BCCI expresses its deepest sympathy on the passing of Dronacharya award-winning guru Shri Ramakant Achrekar. Not only did he produce great cricketers, but also trained them to be fine human beings. His contribution to Indian Cricket has been immense.”

Achrekar – The Master of Master Blaster
It is an extremely well-known fact that the Little Master Sachin Tendulkar was coached by late Achrekar from childhood. Even after reaching the pinnacle of success and fame, Sachin never failed to appreciate the role his coach played in him becoming the phenomenal player that he turned out to be.
However, it wasn’t just the man with a century of international centuries that was embellished by Achrekar’s expertise. The latter had also coached several other renowned cricketers such as Ajit Agarkar, Chandrakant Pandit, Vinod Kambli and Pravin Amre.
