We all want salary hikes in whatever jobs we are doing. That’s a reward for the hard work that we put in on a daily basis for our organization, but what do we expect? Maybe a 20% or a 30% hike? If you are a very good worker, you are allowed to expect even a 50%.
But how about a 1300% salary hike? Well, nobody is joking here. You don’t have to look beyond the Indian opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan whose salary has been increased from Rs 50 Lakh per annum to Rs 7 Crore per annum by the BCCI as he has been promoted from category C to category A+ of the annually contracted players.
Dhawan was in category C last year as his place was not secured in the Indian team in either of the three formats of the game, but the last one year or so has been a complete turnaround for the dashing southpaw. He was not a certainty for the Champions Trophy 2017 and if KL Rahul was fit, Dhawan wouldn’t have been picked for the tournament, but as the luck would have it, the Delhi lad got his place courtesy the injury of Rahul and he made it count.
Dhawan’s fantastic performances
A successful Champions Trophy saw Dhawan making a comeback into the Indian Test side as well and he excelled in the longest format too as he smashed a couple of centuries against Sri Lanka. He then put on some fantastic performances in the recently concluded ODI and T20 series in South Africa and at the moment, he is in selectors’ plans for all the three formats.
A few people may say he Dhawan doesn’t have a technique tight enough for test matches, but with his flair and strokeplay, he still can make a difference at the top of the order and the fact that he has been rewarded with the top grade contract shows that the captain, coach, and the selectors have got full belief in the 32-year old.
