BCCI hints at releasing complete IPL 2019 schedule on Monday

The 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to get underway. The season commences on March 23 with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings taking on the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Unlike the previous editions of the tournament, the BCCI has only released a partial schedule for the season thus far. The schedule for the matches to be played till April 5 has been released.

This includes 4 matches for every side, with Royal Challengers Bangalore being an exception with 5 matches to their name. Also, all teams will play two home matches, and two away games, with Delhi Capitals being an exception with 3 home matches, and the Royal Challengers Bangalore with 3 away matches. It is because of the conflicting dates of the tournament and the General Elections in India that forced the BCCI to release only the partial schedule.

Now, it is apparent that the schedule has been finalized, and the board is set to release the complete fixtures on Monday (March 18, 2019). As per the recent reports in Sportskeeda, a BCCI official has confirmed this news. “It is expected that the remaining schedule for this season of the IPL would be finalised and announced on Monday when the CoA meets (at the Trident Hotel). The IPL COO and his team are working overtime on this and it is a credit to them that the BCCI can even hope of holding the entire season in India this year,” the official quoted.

ICC-BCCI talk on WADA-NADA

The reports further suggest that the members of the CoA (BCCI) will also meet the ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar on Monday in Mumbai. They will be discussing the issue of the BCCI complying with the World Anti-Doping Agency-National Anti-Doping Agency (WADA-NADA).

The ICC wants all the member nations to comply with the WADA regulations. However, the BCCI has its own reservations and lack of trust in NADA due to the recent blips of the agency. The ICC CEO Dave Richardson cited that if cricket needs to become a global sport and an Olympic sport, all the nations will have to be on the same page in every regulation of the governing body.

“We are trying to help the BCCI sort out the issue with WADA and NADA. We think cricket should be in the 2028 Olympics, but it’s not going to happen unless we are a unified sport. At this stage, we need to convince the BCCI that it is a good thing for cricket to be in the Olympics from all aspects,” Richardson remarked.
