The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is prepping up for the historic Test match between India and Afghanistan that is scheduled to be hosted in Bengaluru. As part of the discussions for the Test match, a BCCI delegation is in Kabul alongside acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary to present the possibility of future tours.
Further, not only has the delegation talked about future tours and programmes, but they also have invited the President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani to Bengaluru for the historic Test match. Earlier this week it was Afghan leggie Rashid Khan, who stole all the attention on Twitter. His popularity rose to such an extent that the External Affairs Minister of India offered him a citizenship.
Later Sushma Swaraj made it clear that nationality is a personal choice, and the Afghanistan President also stated that Rashid will always be an Afghan national.
Bilateral ties ahead for both the countries?
On the cricketing front, the delegation met the Afghanistan President on Tuesday, along with Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) chairman, Atif Mashal, to discuss the bilateral ties and cricketing developments.
“During the meeting, the BCCI officials invited the President for the historic match. The trip is about the strong bond between the two countries,” said a well-placed source as quoted by Sportstar.
It was clear and evident that the meeting did take place, as also confirmed by the President’s office that they met the officials from the BCCI. However, they were unclear on whether the president will travel to Bengaluru to attend the historic Test match.
Afghanistan will want to make a memorable debut as the Indian team will take the field without regular skipper Virat Kohli who has been rested for the series. Further, the experience of both Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid will be handy for the visiting side, as the Indians had struggled to pick them in the Indian Premier League.
