In a Syed Mushtaq Ali match, the Karnataka team registered a controversial two-run win against Hyderabad. The incident happened on 11th January 2018 at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. However, the Hyderabad team wasn’t impressed with the umpire’s decision in the match. Further, they were involved in an ugly spat with the umpires and players were reluctant to leave the field. This triggered a delay in the start of next match that was to follow soon after.
Two runs were added to the Karnataka total, owing to an umpiring error, the margin of defeat for Hyderabad eventually. This left the Hyderabad players fuming as they felt the late decision to revise the score resulted in a defeat. In the Karnataka innings, Hyderabad fielder Mehdi Hassan touched the ropes while trying to block a shot hit towards the ropes. But the umpire signalled only two runs.
Upon checking the replays, it was evident that the fielder touched the ropes. On the insistence of Karnataka’s skipper Vinay Kumar, two runs were added to the total after the end of the innings. But Hyderabad captain, Ambati Rayudu, was adamant and demanded a super over.
The BCCI issued notices to Hyderabad skipper and manager
Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said it was waiting for the match referee’s report to act on the incident.
“The BCCI has taken cognizance of the events that unfolded during and after the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match today between Hyderabad and Karnataka. An official report by the match referee is awaited, following which appropriate action as per BCCI’s Code of Conduct will be taken,” the cricket board stated on Twitter on the day of the match.
Having received a report from the match official the board on Friday issued a notice to Hyderabad captain Ambati Rayadu in the wake of a disagreement over an umpiring decision in the high-scoring T20 match.
Besides Rayudu, Hyderabad team manager Krishan Rao has also been served with the notice. The BCCI has also given a seven-day deadline to Rayadu and Kishan to file their reply.
