The World Cup is scheduled to start on May 30 in England and Wales and India are deemed to be one of the favourites to get their hands on the coveted trophy. The Men in Blue are the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) number-two ranked ODI team and a lot would be expected of them in the 50-overs event where they will lock horns against South Africa to start their campaign.
India are the two-time World Champions, having won the prestigious championship in 1983 and 2011 under the leadership of the evergreen Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni respectively. In the meantime, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has put forth a brand new jersey for the upcoming cricketing season, which also includes the mega event to be hosted until July 14.
The jersey is sponsored by Oppo, a Chinese consumer electronics and mobile communications company, and is a tad lighter in shade compared to the previous jersey. The pictures released includes the likes of Dhoni, Indian captain Virat Kohli and Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian Women’s T20I captain who is currently not a part of the series against England Women due to an injury.
Good times for India
The Indian men’s team had a decent time of late. They had an impressive time in Australia and New Zealand and barring the T20I series’, they made their opponents bite the dust in all the Test and ODI format. The team, captained by Kohli, recently lost the two-match T20I home series against the Aussies.
They would now be playing the five-match ODI series, which gets underway tomorrow in Hyderabad. The Women’s team led by Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet did reasonably well in New Zealand and have carried on with their rich vein of form against England as well with a 2-1 win in the ODI series.
