BCCI makes a rookie blunder in naming Board President's XI squad
Not the first time BCCI responsible for the mismanagement of regular practices.
At one point in time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was one of the powerhouses of World Cricket, with all the prominent cricketing boards across the globe including the International Cricket Council (ICC) at its disposal. In order to make major reforms in the cricketing decisions, one had to go through BCCI to sanction the proposal.
That said, the hierarchy of cricketing administration changed as soon as the Lodha Commission was set up and their recommendations were implemented by the Supreme Court-appointed CoA (Committee of Administrators). Soon after, all the lynchpins of the cricketing giants stepped down from their coveted positions and the muscle power of the board started to dissolve.
Their demands for the revenue sharing model was also declined prior to their threats of pulling out of the Champions Trophy. Gradually, the Board was in a turmoil sparred with non-functioning of regular processes. Recently, the venues for the ongoing series between India and Australia were not even named at the last moment.
The state associations started preparation for the series after a tentative notice from the Board. On being asked about the malfunctioning of the board, it was said that it is due to the existing turmoil in BCCI which is causing such irregularities.
India ‘A’ to take on New Zealand ‘A’
In an exclusive event, the board first named Rajasthan medium pacer Deepak Chahar in the Board President’s XI squad for the warm-up games against New Zealand only to replace him with cousin brother Rahul, who is a leg-spinner.
The Indian cricket board earlier sent a release which included Deepak’s name in the BP XI squad, which raised a lot of eyebrows considering he had no performance to merit a place in the squad. It was later realised that the selectors wanted to pick Rahul, who is a current India U-19 player and also did well during the recent colts tour to England.
“It was inadvertently mentioned that Deepak Chahar would represent the Board President’s XI for the warm-up matches against New Zealand ahead of their ODI series against India. Rahul Chahar will feature in the squad that will play two matches at CCI in Mumbai,” admitted BCCI about its clerical mistake according to Mid-Day.
